چکیده

Caryophyllene-6,7-epoxide and caryophyllene-6,7-episulfi de can be easily synthesized from -caryophyllene by autoxidation or episulfi dation. The bioactivities of -caryophyllene and its derivatives were investigated against the subterranean termite Reticulitermes speratus Kolbe. The antifeedant, feeding, and termiticidal activities of each compound were tested using no-choice, dual-choice, and non-contact methods. Antitermitic activities were not shown by -caryophyllene, but were observed for the oxide and sulfi de derivatives. Caryophyllene-6,7-episulfi de showed especially high antifeedant and termiticidal activities. Thus, naturally abundant, non-bioactive -caryophyllene can be easily converted into an antitermite reagent via a non-biological process.

Essential oil of trees of the genus Ocotea (Lauraceae) in Costa Rica. I. Ocotea brenesii.

The chemical composition of the essential oils from leaves and wood of Ocotea brenesii Standl. growing wild in Costa Rica was determined by capillary GC/FID and GC/MS. From the leaves, 64 compounds were identified, corresponding to 85.9% of the oil, and from the wood 57 compounds were identified corresponding to 69.0% of the oil. The major constituents identified in the leaf oil were alpha-copa...

Essential Oils from Leaves of Medicinal Plants of Brazilian Flora: Chemical Composition and Activity against Candida Species

Background: The biotechnological potential of medicinal plants from Brazilian Caatinga and the Atlantic Forest has not been extensively studied. Thus, screening programs are important in prospecting for compounds for developing new drugs. The purpose of this study was to determine the chemical composition and to evaluate the anti-Candida activity of essential oils from leaves of Hymenaea courba...

Chemical composition and larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae of essential oils from four Guarea species.

The essential oils of four Guarea species collected at Manaus (Amazonas, Brazil) were obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed by GC-MS. Except for one diterpene detected, the compounds identified in the essential oils were hydrocarbons and oxygenated sesquiterpenes. The major sesquiterpenes were alpha-santalene (26.26%) and alpha-copaene (14.61%) from G. convergens branches; caryophyllene ep...

Design, Synthesis and Biological Activity of 4,6-disubstituted Pyridin-2(1H)-ones as Novel Inhibitors of Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase

Soluble epoxide hydrolase enzyme is a promising therapeutic target for hypertension, vascular inflammation, pain and some other risk factors of cardiovascular diseases. The most potent sEH inhibitors reported in the literature are urea-based ones which often have poor bioavailability. In this study, in a quest for finding potent inhibitors of soluble epoxide hydrolase, some 4,6-disubstituted py...
